This image was part of an exhibition in Marfa April 2025. I have them listed as “variable editions” because they’re reproduction prints that I hand-paint with gold, making any print made in the future a variation due to the fact I’m not a robot and can’t reproduce the gold painting exactly! But… these could also potentially be one of a kind since I may never paint them again. I will note the number of the print on the back in case this is the outcome.

Image: made on 120 film using a Kodak Autographic A-1 folding camera, pattened in 1914. The film size for this camera is no longer produced so with the aid of adapters, I’m able to use medium format black and white film. It’s not as wide as the original film used, so the image is exposed from the very top to the very bottom of the film, leaving the film markings such as numbers and film type (Ilford HP5, Tmax 100, Tmax 400).

Prints are made on thick 110 g Kozo paper produced specifically for inkjet prints in Japan at the Awagami Factory. The surface is matte and has no visible coating giving it a soft surface that holds the pigment ink well. The Epson archival pigment inks have a deep, rich black, and a neutral tone. Any variations in colors shown in the photos are simply the result of my iPhone picking up ambient, reflected colors. (ie: they are not sepia or any other color, they’re neutral black and white).

I chose areas on each image to embellish with metallic gold paint. While the color of the paint shows a bit on the images looking at them straight on, the metallic glimmer is only seen when light hits it, usually from the side. I made this subtle addition to help draw the viewer deeper into the image, to hold attention and really look at the grandiosity of these landscapes!

I cut down roll paper, so despite my efforts to cut them all exactly 29.5” wide, some are 1/2” shorter, but all are 17” tall. Images are all 16”x 28.5 from black border to black border.

Each print is titled and signed on the front in pencil, and on the back includes further information about the camera.

Prints will ship in heavy duty tube mailers. Shipping cost is included.
