This is the last pinhole photo made to date out in one of the most impressive, remote areas of the state park. What I learned in 2020 was that the most reliable source of hope and well-being was to be able to be out in nature. As a person who generally likes her own company, 2020 had some lonely moments. But when I was out under a huge sky, only the wind to talk to, I didn't feel alone I felt embraced.

The pinhole project started during the scariest part of the pandemic, when no one could quite comprehend what was going on, things were closed, Texas was in lock down, and like everyone else, I faced an uncertainty that threw life into emotional chaos. I was untethered from my happiness but resolved to find a way back.

The pinhole project helped me to focus on what always takes me out of my head: creating.

I set out to visit as many places as I could still access, some old haunts, and some new or under-appreciated. The limitations of the pandemic forced me to see the good that was still around me if I looked hard enough.

The semi transparent images of me, set in these locations, was a way for me to express how I felt... I haunted them, not feeling grounded as I normally do, acting a spirit as I tried to connect to life again.

By early May 2021, I had found my footing, I had adapted to a new life rhythm. The deep interior of Big Bend Ranch State Park was open again and with a new camera, the Noblex 150, self portraits became expansive in format, and my body within the landscapes became solid. I no longer haunt the places I love, I live in them.
