Holga! Medium format film photos shot between 1990 and 2024 using one of my many plastic-lens Holga cameras.
I shot this on assignment for the Austin Chronicle in the mid-late 90s. It was a story about the hill country and I was pointed to several destinations to get photos, one being the old Blanco Bowling Alley and Cafe. The cafe was in the front, the dark bowling alley (and bar) was in the back. The assignment was to get a photo of the pin setter, which I'm sure I did... but this scene was of more interest. I walked over to the men and asked if I could take a photo. I think they just nodded and went about their game. It was 11am. I used a flash on my Holga. This is one of my all-time favorite images! Years later someone contacted me to tell me the men were a group of ranchers in the area.
Believe it or not I've had more than one person ask if that's me. Yes. I traveled back in time and took a photo of myself, despite the fact I was in my early 20s when I took this.
8x10 and 11x14 paper.
These listings are for fiber-based darkroom prints on Ilford Multi-grade fiber, gloss that I printed anywhere from 2012 to 2024. Please see photos for paper size, etc. I used a handmade negative holder to print the more organic shaped border on older prints while new prints have a clean sharp edge.
Between my iPhone photos of glossy darkroom prints and my computer monitor, the colors are a bit off. ALL prints are straight, classic black and white (no toning, warm papers, etc). And trust me, the prints are SO much better in person!
>> If you order, I will press the print in my heat press to flatten completely and make sure I’ve spotted all the dust. I popped all these prints up on my website because I knew it would take me another year to make everything perfect! You will not receive a curled or dust-ridden print which might show in my listing!
The pull-down menu will show what is available. Some listings are just for 8x10 paper prints, others have 11x14 options and even a handful of matted 8x10s (in 11x14 mats).
Ordering:
These are for domestic USA only until further notice.
I tried to keep the sale price low, but did have to add a bit for shipping since I offer “free shipping”, so unless otherwise specified I use First Class mail through USPS.
If you’re ordering in hopes of having a print or prints arrive before Dec 25th, please refer to this schedule:
Orders placed by Dec 9th will be shipped Dec 11th using First Class mail and should arrive in time.
Orders placed by Dec 16th will be shipped by Dec 18th using First Class mail (unless Priority is added to the order) and you’re taking a big chance that it would arrive in time.
Remember! I live in a fairly remote small town and I’m not Amazon- our mail is usually at least a day behind so there is no such thing as overnight and Priority can take 3-4 days. Please plan accordingly!
SALE! Blanco Bowling Alley darkroom print
I'm currently only shipping domestic USA. To make shopping easier, I offer "free shipping" so you know exactly what your total will be (minus the tax if you're a Texan). And because shipping and packaging is not cheap- I have to include it into the listed price. Thanks for understanding!
