Agave - positive : Cyanotype toned in black tea and selectively toned with madder root
The image is from a black and white Polaroid emulsion lift (the original lift is in the section of the show with all the framed lifts!)
Paper size of image is approx. 16x20 and the image is border to border, full size
These larger prints are UNFRAMED but hang from strong, magnetic poster frames for the display.
These are included in the sale of the work. They’re a nice, warm, medium brown, teak wood and hold the print securely. I added strips of archival linen tape to the top and bottom to reinforce the paper, which is already a sturdy, heavyweight watercolor paper.
I titled and signed the fronts of the prints as part of the image, but also included the information on the back, including a date. I coated the front with a diluted artist acrylic medium to help prevent damage from UV light and moisture, but of course care should still be taken when choosing where to display it!
If you choose to frame this, cyanotypes (or any artwork) should never be pressed directly against plexi or glass, and if matted, cyanotypes require an unbuffered rag to keep the work from being contaminated. Unbuffered is different than acid-free. Cyanotypes need a low-alkaline environment. Unbuffered mats prevent degradation due to chemical reactions between the buffering agent and the materials in the art.
